Terry's Thoughts March 2020
March is upon us and that means our Spring and Summer calendars are filling up. My calendar is no exception. Therefore it will be important for me, along with all of you, to remain focused on what is important in order for us to experience all, I believe, He has in store for us in 2020.
In keeping with my effort to remain focused I have been convicted lately concerning how effective we, as an association, are being for the churches of the West Chowan Baptist Association (WCBA). Therefore I am currently evaluating everything we do and every process I am involved with to make sure I am on track with our purpose as well as our theme for 2020. Self-evaluation is always a good thing and it often reveals areas of success and areas that still need work.
An example of this self-evaluation, that has produced some success, involves my efforts in assisting churches who are interested in revitalization. I have been afforded the opportunity to assist two of our churches in the area of revitalization. The Lord has led me to use my years of experience and training in order to serve these churches. As a result we have been able to take a look at each church concerning their current status, needs, and outlook for the future. While the process is in its infancy, I am seeing great progress among the participants. In fact, just within the past two weeks while serving one of these churches, someone, who has been involved with her church for years, indicated she had grown a bit complacent in her Christian responsibilities and decided to recommit her efforts in doing those things scripture requires in order to serve her Lord as well as the church she loves so much. When God’s people are revitalized the church becomes revitalized. While there are many other small examples of people looking afresh at their own walk with the Lord, I am very encouraged to see our folks genuinely interested in getting back to the basics by looking at where they currently are and then being willing to make the adjustments where needed to experience revitalization. As a result of these current examples I am refining the process in order for it to fit the average church here within the WCBA. I am excited with the results thus far and am looking forward to seeing true growth in disciple-making all across our association. If you would like to chat about doing something in your church please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information.
We are seeing success in other areas of our association. Our leadership teams are working hard to be more effective in their service to you the churches of the WCBA. Our Missions Development team (MDT) is hard at work lining up our annual Mission trip to our partner association in upstate New York. In fact the recruiting is already underway. Our target dates for this year’s trip are August 1 – 7. We would leave on Saturday the 1st and return Friday the 7th. While the details are still being worked out you can now register, online, at our website westchowan.org. We will have the details such as cost, activity while on the trip, and transportation details. Please pray for the MDT as they shore up the details and prepare for what I am sure will be another great opportunity of service. Additionally, the MDT is working on providing mission opportunities between the churches of our association and the local school districts. I am particularly excited about the possibilities in this area of ministry and hopefully we will have something concrete to share with you soon. Of course there are many other long standing activities they are involved in so be on the lookout for details on other great mission opportunities available to us all.
A second team that is busy developing ways to have impact on our churches is the Leadership Development Team (LDT). They have been able to organize our first annual VBS Clinic roundtable which is set for Saturday March 7 beginning at 10:00 A.M. here at the MRC. I am particularly excited about this opportunity and I am sure it will grow into something our churches will find very useful. They are of course looking at other opportunities to impact our churches with leadership development. Please pray for them as they seek additional ways to have impact for our churches.
Finally, our other teams such as the Community Relations Team, the Administrative Support Team, and the Family/Social Ministries Team are hard at work serving you and are looking for ways to have greater impact on the churches of our great association. The bottom line is our associational leadership is doing all they can to be all you need in order to carry out what you believe is God’s will for your church. Please call us if you have an individual need or would like additional resources not available to you locally. Remember we love you and consider it an honor to serve the WCBA!!
